Preteens
Preteens usually have a growth spurt when they seem to get taller very quickly. Most girls star this growth spurt about a year earlier than boys. As preteens develop more adult bodies, they start to think about grown-up things and what it will be like to be an adult. Families are still important, of course, but preteens begin spending more time outside the house.
-Pre-teens usually pay a lot more attention to how they look than they did as children.
-Pre-teens often become expert at something and learn to do it better than anyone else in the family. They may like particular sports, or dance, sing, or act very well.
-Pre-teens are often fascinated by musicians, movie stars or famous athletes.
-Going to camp or on school trips helps pre-teens find out how it feels to be away from their family. They realize they have lots in common with other kids and with adults, too.-For preteens, the closest friendships are usually with people of their own sex, girls with girls, boys with boys. Boys may feel shy with girls and vise versa.
